EIGHTY FOUR – In less than a year, the Washington Area Humane Society has successfully raised the $1.5 million in funding needed to make their new home a reality. Kelly Proudfit, Executive Director announced today pledges and gifts totaling $1,567,602 million have been received through their New Home, New Hope Campaign.
Spurred on by a gift from an anonymous donor to match contributions to the campaign up to $50,000, the last month has seen an acceleration in fundraising. “We are so incredibly thankful for the generous support WAHS has received from community members, foundations, and businesses,” shared Ami Andy Hillebrand, Campaign Co-Chair and WAHS Board member. “In the next few months, as construction wraps up, we will finally have the kind of space we have dreamed about for years. A facility that is open and welcoming, where animals can thrive and play, and were resources are available to meet the needs of the community.”
After years of planning and fundraising, the Washington Area Humane Society broke ground on a new 10,000 square foot building on their current property in Eighty Four, PA last September. The facility will provide much needed improvements to support programming and services for animals and their families in Washington County. The total project cost is roughly $5 million, and a large amount of the cost was already restricted in a building fund from generous bequests. The remaining money needed for the project was estimated at $1.5 million.
One of the most popular options for WAHS donors has been the opportunity to name unique spaces in the new building for themselves, their pets, family members or businesses. Donors can also be included on the recognition wall with any gift over $100. “The naming rights to our indoor dog kennels sold out quickly, but we still have cat condos available to name.” said Proudfit. Additionally, there are a handful of other naming opportunities left in the building. Any future donations towards naming rights will go towards the expected increased operating costs in the new building. Construction on the new facility is proceeding on schedule for a fall/winter 2019 opening. A ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening events will be announced in the near future.
