NEW HOME. NEW HOPE
GROUND BREAKING
September 13th was a special and historical day for the Washington Area Humane Society. WAHS broke ground for the New Home, New Hope project that consists of a new 10,000 square foot shelter on the current 5-acre property. Strada Architects of Pittsburgh designed the new facility and Graziano Construction firm was awarded the contract.
The new shelter is projected to be finished in the summer of 2019. WAHS was thrilled to announce they have raised over 50% of our 1.5 million dollar capital campaign goal.
Board members, staff, volunteers, and special donors were onsite to celebrate this momentous occasion. Long time resident, Eve, was given the opportunity to take the first dig! She later was adopted after all the media coverage of the event.
Val Porter of the DVE Morning Show served as MC for the event. Senator Bartolotta spoke on behalf of the Humane Society and all three Washington County Commissioners attended the event and spoke including; Commissioner Vaughn, Commissioner Maggie, and Commissioner Shober Jr.. State Representative Jason Ortitay and State Representative Tim O’Neil attended the event as did District Attorney Gene Vittone.
