Kitten season, the annual high-breeding period that runs through spring and summer, is a time of tremendous challenges for young cats and rescues.
On average, the Washington Area Humane Society cares for more than 200 kittens (newborn – 6 months) each year. Neonate and young kittens are some of the most vulnerable pets in need in shelters as they require around-the-clock care for the first few weeks of their lives.
So how can you help? Read below to find out.
Become a Foster
During kitten season, the need for fosters can be even greater than the need for adopters. Young kittens can live safely in a small enclosed area, even a bathroom, if you have other pets, and the WAHS will provide you with all the information and supplies you need to care for your foster pet.
If you find a young kitten or litter and have room in your home – for just two weeks of more – please consider becoming a foster. We encourage you to call our team for assistance and to receive all necessary supplies.
Spay and Neuter
There are 70 million homeless cats in the United States each year. You can help end pet overpopulation by spaying and neutering your pets.
Spaying and neutering is one of the greatest gifts you can provide your pet and your family. These routine medical procedures not only help control pet overpopulation, but they may also prevent medical and behavior problems from developing. The WAHS offers $45 spay/neuter services monthly for owned and feral cats.
Be a responsible pet owner and spay and neuter your pets. Click the button below to schedule an appointment.
Shop our Amazon Wish List
Help us provide lifesaving care to nearly 200 kittens this year by purchasing a much needed item(s) from our Amazon Kitten Wish List.
Not only do we use these items at our facility, but we also provide our fosters with everything they need to care for their kittens. While some items can be reused (play pens, scales, heating pads, etc.), we continuously need others such as food, formula, and nipples.
The items you purchase from our Amazon Wish List will be sent directly to our facility. All other donations can be dropped off to our shelter at any time (1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330).

Let our kittens de-stress your workplace! It is a known fact that pets have a wonderful effect on people. Work is the #1 stressor in the U.S. Studies show that approximately 77% of people feel physical symptoms of stress. Cats and kittens can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and increase social interaction, in and out of the workplace.
Each kitten play date will be scheduled for 1 hour. Our team will bring adoptable kittens or cats to your workplace. Gather your team for an hour of relaxation and team bonding, all while supporting our lifesaving mission!
