Angel Paws Program
Giving You Peace of MindWhat happens to your pet if something happens to you? We understand pet owners want peace of mind and the knowledge that their pets will be cared for in the event anything happens to them.
We understand it is sometimes impossible to arrange for family or friends to care for our pets when we pass. The WAHS offers the Angel Paws Program just for this reason. By planning a minimum gift of $5,000 for the first pet and $2,500 for each one after that, you can take comfort in knowing your pet will receive best-in-class care and find a new home through the WAHS. Through this program, your pet will receive all necessary medical care on intake. The WAHS will provide shelter, safety, food, and care and will do its best to place your pet in the appropriate foster home or forever home.
The Washington Area Humane Society is a closed-door shelter that does not euthanize for space. You can have peace of mind your pet will have a warm bed and food until a long-term home is found.
Step one is contacting Kelly Proudfit, Executive Director, with your letter of intent. This can be a simple letter stating your name, address, and list of pets owned as well as your wish for your pets to be received at the Washington Area Humane Society in the case that something happens to you with the understanding of the program gift requirement listed in your will or trust.
Step two is working with your estate lawyer to include the WAHS in your will or trust documents as a beneficiary for the $5,000 for the first pet and $2,500 for each pet after that.
The letter of intent is not a binding contract. It is the pet owners’ responsibility to make sure their trustee or executor knows their intent and that their will/trust reflects the terms of their intent and lists the WAHS as a beneficiary in the amounts outlined. If the WAHS cannot fulfill a promise due to circumstances outside of our control the money will not be accepted or will be returned. The WAHS will do everything they can to honor the wishes if the letter of intent is received and the donation is given at time of request. This program is not restricted to only Washington County residents.
