Surrendering Your Pet
The Washington Area Humane Society takes in hundreds of owned pets a year. The WAHS requires a dog/cat surrender form be filled out and accepted before an appointment will be placed for a pet surrender. Pet surrenders are priortized by need and the WAHS often has a wait list.
Step one in surrendering an animal to WAHS is filling out the surrender form. Fill out the appropriate surrender form below and fax back to the shelter at 724-222-7343 or email info@washingtonpashelter.org. The WAHS only take pet surrenders from Washington County, PA.

Step two WAHS will put you on a wait list if we there is no available room in shelter. You will be contacted when a space opens.
Step three WAHS staff will review your application and reach out to schedule a surrender appointment if your pet is accepted. Please bring all medical. Our kennel/cat and vet staff will evaluate your pet to make sure they fit the criteria we need for surrender.
Please contact the WAHS Shelter Manager, Tue-Sat, if you have any questions about the process at 724-222-PETS.
The WAHS reserves the right to turn your pet away at any time due to behavior or medical issues. The WAHS does not take cats that are unsocialized and cannot be handled.
